Why are you doing a fundraiser? Do we really do fundraisers just to make money? Honestly, none of us wants to become the top cookie dough salesperson in the country. We do fundraisers because our organization needs something. You might need uniforms, equipment, books, speakers, tools, or any of a hundred other things. Holding a fundraiser is about raising the money you need to achieve your organization’s goals. It should come as no surprise, then, that one of the keys to a successful fundraiser is keeping the true goal at the top of everybody’s mind. Remind them of the goal Your participants need to be reminded that they’re not just ‘raising money’. They’re buying uniforms. They’re getting new books for the library. They’re raising capital to help the needy. Money, by itself, will not motivate your participants like an organizational goal does. Show them the benefits How will the fundraiser help your participants? Will they look cool in their new uniforms? Will their team perform better once they buy better training equipment? Will they receive the satisfaction that comes from helping others? Whatever the benefit, your team needs to be reminded of how each of them will personally benefit from the fundraiser. Philanthropy will only go so far. How will your team members grow, improve, or benefit from the results of the fundraiser? You’re not selling magazines; you’re selling a great looking uniform. You’re not selling discount cards, you’re selling new equipment. Everybody needs to know how they will benefit from the fundraiser. Remember, a good fundraiser isn’t about money. It’s about meeting your goals and achieving your organization’s objectives. The fundraiser is one step in the process of achieving those goals. Keep a proper perspective, and your fundraiser will be even more effective. |
